Welcome to the website of the Reading and District Probus Club.

Please note that from January 2024 our meetings will be at Sonning Golf Club - see the Reading and District page. Our club is now open to all genders.

We hope you will browse the site to learn a little about the Club and the organisation and, if it makes you feel that you would like to join, please use the Contact Us page to email the Honorary Secretary directly.

Club Officers

President : Peter Higginson

MSc in Computer Science. Worked on what is now the Internet and other high-speed LAN/WAN interconnection projects. In retirement, making tools for teaching assembly language to 6th form and 1st year university students.

david laird

Secretary : David Laird

A Chartered Civil Engineer, David specialised in Environmental Services, particularly water and spent most of his working life overseas.

siraj vora

Treasurer : Siraj Vora

Siraj has a BA in economics and an ACA in cost accounting. He specialised in cost control and planning in the petro-chemical industry.

russell king

Vice-President and Almoner : Russell King

An Ordained minister (Officer) of The Salvation Army for 46 years during which time have been leader of 17 churches in different parts of the UK, served as a Regional Public Relations Officer and finally was Head of Internal Audit for UK and Ireland.

Reading and District

This Club is one of the oldest in England, being the fourth Club to have been founded, the first president having been elected in 1969, and celebrating its 50th Birthday in 2018.

Please note that from January 2024 the Reading and District Club will meet at Sonning Golf Club, Duffield Rd, Sonning on Thames, Reading RG4 6GJ.

Meetings are held once a month, on the second Tuesday at 12:00 pm for business at 12:30 pm followed by lunch at 12:45 pm. This is usually followed by a speaker except in the month of February when the Annual General Meeting is held. Talks are selected for their information, interest and / or educational content.

Occasionally the club organises outings to theatres, visits to places of interest, social walks, etc., the activities being selected and organised by the members.

Reading and District Club is run by an enthusiastic Committee whose aim is always to make membership of the Club a worthwhile activity for retired business persons to enjoy.

The Club is open to all people of retired or near-retired age. A warm welcome will be given.

Visitors from other Probus Clubs are always welcome. To ensure a meal you need to contact the secretary a week before the meeting using the Contact Us form.
